Monaleen GAA Tennis Club Notes;
We had two teams playing in the Munster Winter League. Our Grade 3 team made the long trip to Ballinlough Tennis Club in Cork on Sunday. Monaleen were beaten 3-1 but all the matches were close. Cezary and Tommy lost the men’s doubles in three tight sets and Gillian and Jennifer were beaten 7-6 7-5 in a very tight match. Jennifer and Tommy won their mixed doubles in three sets but Cezary and Gillian were beaten 6-3 6-4 with only one break of serve in each set; very unlucky. That was their first defeat in the League so they are still in a great position to qualify for the knockout stages.
Our Grade 4 men’s team also played Ballinlough Tennis Club at home on Sunday. They came away with a 2-2 draw. Sorin and John lost two tight matches; the second going to a deciding tie-break but Nicky and Morgan were excellent on the day- winning both matches 6-4 5-7 7-5 and 6-4 6-2 to share the spoils. The Grade 4 team is unbeaten and also looking good to qualify for the knockout stages when the Winter League matches resume in the new year.
There was one other match scheduled for Sunday for our Grade 6 team at home to St. Annes. However, word obviously reached the Waterford City club about the quality of the Monaleen Team as they failed to show!! J Even Conor McGregor wasn’t that good!
A reminder that club gear and Tretorn X Tennis Balls are available from Declan at 0876823289. Also, why not give the gift of tennis membership for Christmas. Single membership is €95 while family membership is €150 for the year.
Two fun tennis tournaments are being held over Christmas – Tuesday 22nd December and Sunday 27th December. Please reply to the mail which issued or put your name on the sheet at the noticeboard.
